Achim Koerfer *27.06.1969 - Already in his childhood days, Achim Koerfer developed a passion for photography. In the years that followed, the fine art photographer from Mönchengladbach evolved his intensely personal signature style. Equipped only with his conventional reflex camera, he uses his precise grasp of marshalling multiple exposures to create images not only with the exciting and striking look of a digitally composited motif but also with a subtly compelling shift of perspective. His technique, his philosophy and the message of his works share a single, cogently simple premise: things are seldom as they seem. Topical issues of immediate relevance to the fine art photographer and to society in general serve as inspiration for his photo sequences. Koerfer rises to the challenge of taking a stand and creates photographic manifestos to express his concern in terms of striking imagery and vivid colour intended to polarise opinion and invite liberating controversy. To this effect, Koerfer selects his subjects with utmost concentration, an unerring eye for in situ composition and a highly intuitive eiditic grasp of skillfully layered exposures. The result is beguiling images of intrinsic beauty whose mesmeric interplay of light and colour work an inescapable charm upon the beholder.

To create his surrealistically visionary multiple exposures, Koerfer superimposes layer upon layer of images, symmetrical upon assymetrical, geometrical upon organic, which subsequently interact in suspenseful ways. The finished work then affords the beholder a look behind the scenes, behind the familiar and day- to- day to reveal a new dimension between the lines of reality, wherein traditional, long- established ways of viewing things are made to follow new rules. Koerfer's unique non- digital, in situ multiple exposures unveil new landscapes where boundaries blur, dichotomies are reconciled and inamimate objects tell stories of how important it is to look at the familiar in a new light and there, find and experience the startlingly new.  Here, new vistas are opened where everyday things are made, by a subtle sleight- of- hand, to become magical and fascinating.

The full, fascinating range of Koerfer's work is given regular public exposure in Germany and abroad by means of exhibitions in such venues as Hamburg and Amsterdam. These are always exciting affairs for the fine art photographer who enjoys seeing how the public receives, perceives and interprets his works. Then to Achim Koerfer, the strength and nobility of humanity lies in its boundless diversity- of experience, of backgrounds, of points- of- view, perceptions, interpretations, needs, fantasies. Every picture is actually a multitude of pictures- then each beholder sees a unique and personal version through the lens of his perceptions, associations and pre- conceptions. And so, one and the same picture is charged with a significance unique to each person who views it.

Venue: Galerie Stadthaus | Stadthausbrücke 8 | Hamburg

Exhibition Opening: Monday, 25 January 2010, 20.00 PM

Duration of Exhibition: from 25 January till 28 February 2010

Press Clipping: Hamburg / Mönchengladbach - Fine Art Photographer Achim Koerfer is known for his intriguing multiple exposures, which always surprise the viewer with their artistry. Now the artist himself has been surprised by a repeat exhibition of his photo sequence SYNTHESIZED FASHION in Hamburg, which had been exhibited there for the first time in 2008 in the Galerie KiT. Owing to the success of the first exhibition and to popular demand, art dealer Erhard Untiet and his sponsor, the Board of Urban Development and Environmental Concerns of the city of Hamburg decided to reprise the exhibition in another venue. Once more, Achim Koerfer’s fine art photography is to be exhibited in Hamburg from 25 January to 28 February 2010 in the Stadthaus Hamburg, the town hall. This came quite unexpectedly for the fine art photographer, who has since published two further thematic photo sequences. “Of course it came as a pleasant surprise” stated Koerfer, “at the same time, this reprised exhibition shows me that I can touch people and make a difference through my art. That is very important to me.” After all, his pictorial compositions are not only impressively articulate artworks but also expressions of social criticism. SYNTHESIZED FASHION decries the soulless conformism imposed by Fashion by lending the life- and speechless mannequins idiosyncratic personalities and a language of their own.

Venue: Kunstkaufhaus Mootz- Art | Bleichstraße 2 | Saarbrücken

Exhibition Opening: Thursday, 01 December 2009, 10.00 AM

Duration of Exhibition: from 01 December 2009 till 31 March 2010

Press Clipping: Saarbrücken / Mönchengladbach - Bizarre realm of flowers meets art emporium- from 01 December 2009 till 31 March 2010 the Kunstkaufhaus Mootz- Art gallery in Saarbrücken presents works of fine art photography from unikatfabrik.de. These artworks are taken from Achim Koerfer's current photo sequence FLORAL IMPACT for which the artist from Mönchengladbach has melded images of wildflowers and blooms of garden varieties and forms of nature and objects of artifice to create a surreal floral continuum to graphically symbolize the encroachments of man upon Nature applying his highly personal conception of aesthetics. The intricacies of the issue of rampant genetic engineering finds expression in Koerfer's unique technique of photographic superimposition effected by non- digital multiple exposures alone, resulting in works of arresting imagery. The singular originality of this style which Koerfer developed and refined autodidactically and the break with conventional principles of perception it embodies moved Michael Mootz to exhibit the compelling works of the fine art photographer in his gallery.

Venue: Galerie KiT | Billstraße 84 | Hamburg

Exhibition Opening: Wednesday, 02 October 2008, 19.00 PM

Duration of Exhibition: from 02 October till 30 November 2008

Press Clipping: Hamburg / Mönchengladbach - from 2 October till 30 November 2008, a selection of works by fine art photographer Achim Koerfer from Mönchengladbach will be exhibited in the Galerie KiT in Hamburg. The compositions involved, taken from Koerfer’s latest photo sequence entitled "SYTHESIZED FASHION", will be displayed on the premises of the Board of Urban Development and Environmental Concerns of the city of Hamburg. Koerfer’s photographic compositions stand out for reason of their intriguing, apparently digitally composited effects which are actually achieved solely using a mirror reflex camera, conventional photographic techniques and an unerring eye for in situ composition. Talent and a sui generis technique create compellingly visionary images which, thanks to their protean nature, inspire the beholder’s imagination to flights of delightful fancy and multiple interpretations while posing an exciting challenge to his/her perceptions. "SYNTHESISED FASHION" is an appeal eloquently expressed by means of gripping images, for greater diversity and for resistance against the face- and senseless conformism imposed by fashion and brand- consciousness.

Press Clipping: Aachen / Mönchengladbach - "At last we have an art exhibition held in the course of the World Equestrian Championship where there is not a horse in sight!" was the first thing Aachen mayoress Ms. Verheyen said as artist Achim Koerfer conducted her through the ranks of his artworks. A synergy of unusual calibre took place in the conference rooms of the newly redecorated Mercure Hotel: the interplay between an artist, a club of entrepreneurs and a hotel team. "Art deserves a place in our everyday lives. It is for this reason that (I consider) this venue to have been so aptly chosen." stated Ms. Verheyen, thus highlighting the avowed intent of the organisers of the exhibition, who for this very reason refrained from selecting a conventional art gallery for the venue.
